Hiawassee - Here We Come! I think...
Friday
Ummm… exhausted doesn’t even cover it as the alarm went off
for me at 5am. I was up most of the
night with Bj and he had just been miserable.
I think I had just fallen asleep around 4am and I was not looking forward
to the long drive into work. BUT I WAS
looking forward to our camping weekend, the 2 of us, our fur baby, and friends.
So, I got home around 3ish and jumped in the shower and
finished up my last minute packing… Right as Bj was about finished loading the
car, my daughter came out of her room, holding her phone, with an extremely
dismayed look on her face.
“What’s wrong?!?”
Insert “crisis” situation, family discussion, return email to
her casting agent with questions, seeing God’s hand and trusting in His timing,
then being sure she had processed fully and was good with the new
situation. Extraverts can do this
quickly (sometimes too quickly, but that is for another blog post And on my
other blog)
Okay, where were we… oh! Yes, we were about to leave!
On another side note, my daughter and I are currently
sharing a car right now, so the big car was going to tailgate this weekend and
we were loaded up to camp in the small car.
Ha ha…
That little car in front is packed tight! |
So Bj loaded me up in the full car, put Baby on my lap, and
we headed up the mountain to Hiawassee.
We were leaving a bit later than we had originally planned,
so as soon as we got there, we (Bj) started setting up camp before it got too dark.
We're full! |

This is where it gets fun.
Bj began setting up the tent. (insert steady stream of cuss words here). “I forgot the !@#$ steaks!” I responded in my head, “no you didn’t! Becky
and I are going to Walmart tomorrow to buy them.” I realized, in my head, that he meant
“STAKES”. I’m no girl scout, but I’m
pretty sure you need those to put up the tent.
As our friend Rex, graciously came over to see if he could
help, he stated, “I have stakes”.
Wow! My hero! But with honey’s back and his liking me to be
as comfortable as possible, we also realized that we didn’t have the air pump
to blow up the air mattress. Rex said he
didn’t have one of those but he’s still my hero.
Honey sent me on my way to go visit with Becky while he
finished the camp (a walk up a steep little hill to their RV). She had yummy bison stew waiting on us when
Bj finished setting up. He arrived
sweaty, sore, and tired, but totally handsome to me. So we fellowshipped over the supper and then we went inside and sought their expert advice on our future RV
purchase and daydreamed with them as they seek out an 5th wheel for
their recently purchased RV lot.
As Bj began falling asleep mid-sentence, we headed back down
the hill to get some shut eye. Easier
said than done in a tent! Just
sayin’. Also easier said than done when the first
thing we read in the Long Ridge Campground welcome packet was to be alert as
there had been recent bear and coyote sightings. But before we tried sleeping... Bj woke up a little on the walk down to the campsite and decided for some mandolin practice, so we started a 1 log fire (because we were too pooped for a long fire) and relaxed in the night air a bit.

I love this man |
Of course Baby was restless, so every time she walked
around, it sounded like something was outside the tent on our tarp (like a bear
or a coyote), so I’d say, “What’s that?!?”
It was windy that night and a lot of branches broke… “What’s
that?!?” Good grief!
It was still a bit muggy as it seems North Georgia is in a pretty moderate drought and still 90 degrees in mid-September… so princess Tracy was missing her a/c. Bj’s back was really missing the air mattress, but thankfully, as he never packs light, we had 3 sleeping bags to sleep on and one to cover up with, if we needed it. Thank goodness he had those! Commence a few hours of very light shut eye.
Stay tuned for Saturday's adventures that included coffee in a canteen, a chainsaw, and pictures of our campsite and the great campground where we stayed.
