Pouring Rain, Our Revised Camping Lists, and a Review of Long Ridge Campground, Hiawassee, GA

Sunday

We woke up when it was pretty dark out still, so we tried to wait out some light before doing our coffee thing.  We then realized it was pretty cloudy and light might be a while.

We took our time making coffee and sipped it at the table.  PB&J breakfast came soon after.
I love coffee
More time for reading??

Baby hoping our camping neighbors would get up soon.

Baby gave up and went back to bed!
Well actually, even though it was pretty cloudy, we did take a little while for reading before we started packing up.

Packing up!  What a job and unfortunately Bj did most of this himself.  I was winding down my 5th week on steroids and was feeling really puny and dizzy.  I'm guessing that's what made me feel yucky.

I helped as I could and then Bj sent me up to hang out with Becky and Rex while he finished up. Becky and Rex were planning on leaving Tuesday for Florida.  I wanted to get my visit time in.

Bj finished loading up and drove our overloaded car up to the RV to join us.  He visited for about 10 minutes when it started sprinkling.  We decided to hit the road as the rain was definitely starting and Becky and Rex had their own work to do to prepare for their trip.

It poured the whole way home but miraculously let up so we could unload the car.  As soon as the last load was heading up the steps the sky opened again and for the rest of the night!

Bj says, "We were really blessed in so many instances, tent stakes, no rain, a stranger with an air pump... all this made for an incredible weekend."

Tracy says, "We had a great time hanging out just the two of us (well Baby too).  I enjoyed listening to the babbling creek, the breeze blowing, and the crickets at night.  I appreciated our fairly private campsite as I'm still a novice tent camper. Overall it was a great getaway adventure!"

Bj says, "Yeah, it was!".

The campground, Long Ridge Campground, is very nice and open year round to RV's and tent campers.  It is very well kept.  It is not too spread out and the owners are very friendly.  We will definitely camp there again,  All of the campers were very nice too!

Here's their website!  If you're ever looking to camp in Hiawassee, GA, give them a shout out.

What we forgot and wish we had:

  • Tent Stakes (actually we had them all along and found them when we unloaded the car)
  • Our big Coleman lantern
  • The vacuum (we had a dc/ac converter for the car) so we could have filled the air mattresses and vacuumed the tent before we folded it up.
  • The other coffee cup
  • A towel or two
  • A blanket for Baby to sleep on
  • A leash stake for Baby
  • Dry shampoo
  • a fire poker of sorts for the campfire (there were no loose small, tree limbs on the ground to use).

What we were glad we brought:

  • Portable camping potty (just being real) and toilet paper
  • Baby wipes for bathing (not a communal shower person unless it's an emergency)
  • Coffee and cream
  • Tea kettle
  • The Peak 1 Burner over lugging the camping stove
  • Gluten free almond bread for me and hostess cupcakes for Bj
  • Bug spray
  • Duraflame log (made a great starter for the pack of logs we got from the campground store)
  • Rubber mallet for the stakes that we ended up borrowing

Sad smoldering campfire.  Time to say good bye
