Pouring Rain, Our Revised Camping Lists, and a Review of Long Ridge Campground, Hiawassee, GA

Sunday We woke up when it was pretty dark out still, so we tried to wait out some light before doing our coffee thing.  We then realized it was pretty cloudy and light might be a while.    We took our time making coffee and sipped it at the table.  PB&J breakfast came soon after.  I love coffee More time for reading??   Baby hoping our camping neighbors would get up soon. Baby gave up and went back to bed! Well actually, even though it was pretty cloudy, we did take a little while for reading before we started packing up.   Packing up!  What a job and unfortunately Bj did most of this himself.  I was winding down my 5th week on steroids and was feeling really puny and dizzy.  I'm guessing that's what made me feel yucky.   I helped as I could and then Bj sent me up to hang out with Becky and Rex while he finished up. Becky and Rex were planning on leaving Tuesday for Florida.  I wanted t...

What Does a Canteen, a Chainsaw, and a Campfire Have in Common?

Saturday Morning Song!!! We got up out of the tent when it was just starting to get light.  Our RV neighbors were still sleeping, so we decided to enjoy the quiet morning to have some coffee and get some reading in.  After all, we were up there to relax, right?  Especially after all that hard work Bj put in setting up our tent.  Poor baby. We are coffee drinkers so we did bring some  instant coffee  to make.  However, somehow we managed to only bring 1 coffee cup!  Bj DID happen to bring a small water canteen though, so that's what he drank his coffee out of.  Ha ha!   The lone coffee cup Bj's canteen o' coffee The coffee packets were pretty convenient and not too bad, but I might look into a camping coffee pot to make fresh brewed the next time.  This time we used this great burner ( similar to this ) that Bj purchased when he picked up our little odds and ends on Friday morning.  We already had purchas...

Hiawassee - Here We Come! I think...

Friday Ummm… exhausted doesn’t even cover it as the alarm went off for me at 5am.  I was up most of the night with Bj and he had just been miserable.  I think I had just fallen asleep around 4am and I was not looking forward to the long drive into work.  BUT I WAS looking forward to our camping weekend, the 2 of us, our fur baby, and friends. So, I got home around 3ish and jumped in the shower and finished up my last minute packing… Right as Bj was about finished loading the car, my daughter came out of her room, holding her phone, with an extremely dismayed look on her face.  “What’s wrong?!?” Insert “crisis” situation, family discussion, return email to her casting agent with questions, seeing God’s hand and trusting in His timing, then being sure she had processed fully and was good with the new situation.  Extraverts can do this quickly (sometimes too quickly, but that is for another blog post And on my other blog ) Okay, where were we… ...

Anticipation and Preparation - Camping Anxiety

Thursday Night Reality set in that we were going camping.  This is where Tracy says, "EEEKKK!!!" We had found some of our camping equipment the previous weekend as that was our originally scheduled camp trip however, Bj could not find the ropes.  The ropes were to hang a tarp over our tent (in case of rain), so he added that to his list of camping goodies he needed to pick up from Walmart.   Just a small amount of early packing.  Bj doesn't pack light! Bj was in charge of the packing list for this camping event as he’s the Boy Scout and knows where everything is in the basement (ha ha!)   He was working that evening at the local high school, so this gave me the evening to try and get my stuff together for the weekend and maybe get the house somewhat in order.  I gave up on the latter but I did manage to make my yummy almond meal bread to take with us.   my yummy, gluten free, almond meal bread As most trips go...

We spent Friday and Saturday night at this great little campground .  The couple that owns it are super sweet! We enjoyed the weekend visiting with our friends, as they were RV camping there but it was a lot of work (for Bj anyway). Blog post recap and review of the campground coming this weekend. In the meantime, here's a few unedited pics.
