What Does a Canteen, a Chainsaw, and a Campfire Have in Common?

Saturday

We got up out of the tent when it was just starting to get light.  Our RV neighbors were still sleeping, so we decided to enjoy the quiet morning to have some coffee and get some reading in.  After all, we were up there to relax, right?  Especially after all that hard work Bj put in setting up our tent.  Poor baby.

We are coffee drinkers so we did bring some instant coffee to make.  However, somehow we managed to only bring 1 coffee cup!  Bj DID happen to bring a small water canteen though, so that's what he drank his coffee out of.  Ha ha!
The lone coffee cup

The coffee packets were pretty convenient and not too bad, but I might look into a camping coffee pot to make fresh brewed the next time.  This time we used this great burner (similar to this) that Bj purchased when he picked up our little odds and ends on Friday morning.  We already had purchased a small tea kettle at the Goodwill for our home survival stuff/camping stuff and brought that with us specifically for our coffee.  I made the coffee more tolerable as I made sure we had creamer in the cooler (not powder, but real half and half).

This burner worked out great!  I highly recommend for short camping trips where you won’t be doing much cooking.. but I could see how it would work well for a single that wanted warm meals and would be able to wash dishes.

Coffee made… on to reading….

We later joined Becky and Rex for some brewed coffee… that was nice!  While we finished coffee… the very close sound of a chainsaw started.  Hmmm… came to relax and be quiet with nature… chainsaw?

Becky and I decided to get dressed and head to Walmart to buy steaks to cookout that night.  The closest Walmart was about 30 minutes away in Blairsville.

I headed to the tent for a baby wipe bath then to our picnic table to put some “paint on the barn” and fix my camping hair.
Camp hair, don't care!
As we pulled off for our venture, the boys were hanging out at the campsite while I enjoyed not hearing the chainsaw.  We also agreed that the boys having some “guy time” was a good thing.  Our boys don’t realize they need fellowship.

We enjoyed the beautiful drive over to Blairsville, our own catch up and girl time, and then shopping together.  We haven’t done that in years!  We got some good steaks and veggies for supper, I got some foam cups for our coffee (since we only managed to bring one cup), and we each got a pretty blouse.

We stopped at the Hiawassee Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Market on the way back to the campground.  I ended up with some jelly and Amish butter, but the produce was very pretty!  It looked amazing.

When we got back, the boys were still hanging out and it was nap time.  But alas, the chainsaw was still going.  Boo.  BUT while we were gone, the chainsaw operator was nice enough to loan Bj an air pump so I found out it might be princess-like for sleeping that night.  (insert 2 thumbs up here)… so we separated for naps and since we didn’t have an RV, we didn’t get to nap due to the noise, but we did get more reading time in.  So that’s always a good thing.   I also got some more pictures of our campsite.

Becky and Rex came down to hang out with us for a bit after naptime and then we went up the hill to make our steak supper.  It was nice!

Campfire time!  Woo hoo… That was fun.  We actually had fellow tent campers close by so it made the experience a little more real to me.  God was awesome to cool the temperature so that we could really enjoy the campfire.  It was fun to chill, hang out, and hear more camp host stories from the Redwoods.

After Becky and Rex headed home for bed, we headed in to our tent and found the top mattress deflated, but the lower one usable.  Whatever.  We piled in and with the cooler weather and a little air under me… I went Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

So, what does a canteen, chainsaw, and campfire have in common?
They all make for a great day camping!

Stay tuned for our final review of Long Ridge Campground in Hiawassee, GA and our lists.  Our, "what we forgot and wish we had list" and our "what we're glad we brought list".
